Fundraising Purpose

We are honored to be one of the selected charitable organizations in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon (SCHKM) Marathon Charity Programme 2025, receiving charity quotas for fundraising purposes. The funds raised will be used to support SLCO’s work to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students to receive equal educational opportunities and to reduce their communication barriers. Additionally, we aim to encourage community members to become companions of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, supporting and accompanying each other in practice, running and even daily life, heading towards the common goal of making our community more inclusive and accessible.

We rely on public donations and project funds to support our services, so we definitely need your support!

We cordially invite you to register as a charity runner or donate to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students to receive equal education and to co-create an environment without communication barriers.

Once you become a charity runner, you can…

  • Participate in a 6-session professional running training course led by a professional coach, equipping yourself alongside other deaf and hearing runners
  • (Training sessions will be conducted from November 2024 to February 2025 with simultaneous  interpretation services between Hong Kong Sign Language and Cantonese. Details will be announced later. Runners may decide whether to participate or not.)
  • Receive the official runner’s pack for SCHKM 2025, along with specially designed gifts from SLCO
  • Become companions with deaf, hard-of-hearing and hearing individuals, running together and breaking through boundaries

Frequently Asked Questions

I have no experience running marathons. Can I still register as a charity runner for SLCO?

Thank you for your support, of course you can! The 10km race is very suitable for first-time participants in the SCHKM, and we offer a professional running training course to gradually train up runners to break through their boundaries. Other charity runners from SLCO will also accompany you along this journey.

Why is the fee for the charity runner quota so high?

The fee for the charity runner quota is different from that of the public category because the Marathon Charity Programme aims to raise funds for charities. In fact, the cost of the charity runner quota does not necessarily have to be borne by the runner alone. We suggest you find supporters such as friends, teachers and family members to sponsor you as a charity runner representing SLCO. If needed, we are more than happy to assist you in setting up your personal fundraising campaign, so you can raise funds through your social media platforms.

If I have already enrolled in the public category successfully, can I still become a charity runner for SLCO?

Thank you for your kind intentions. In this case, you are welcome to continue participating in the race in the public category and make a donation to support SLCO. If you donated HK$2,500 or more, you may also participate in SLCO’s professional running training course and receive our specially designed gifts.

Do charity runners of SLCO need to know Hong Kong Sign Language?

It is not necessary. Whether you know Hong Kong Sign Language or not, you are welcome to register. If you are interested in learning sign language and connecting with individuals with different hearing abilities, this marathon charity program will provide a platform for runners with various hearing abilities to better understand each other and build companionship.

Do I have to attend all 6 running training sessions?

It is not mandatory. Once you have successfully registered as a charity runner or donated HK$2500 or above, you will be entitled to join the professional running training course for free. It is up to you to decide whether to participate in the training or not and how many sessions to attend.
